" A more safe, smart, sane approach to pain management"
The 100 Million Ways Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on diminishing the incidence of opioid dependence and providing support to those who struggle with opioid dependence. As opioid dependence largely results from the over-prescription of opioids in patients seeking pain relief, the foundation supports that every opioid pill not taken reduces the chance for personal harm. The organization advocates for a “more safe, smart, sane approach to pain management” by supporting the replacement of opioids with cannabis-based medicines. Specifically, they support “regulatory grade data collection and science” to legitimize this replacement and to make cannabis-based medicines more approachable to patients in need of pain relief as well as the general public.
The 100 Million Ways Foundation provides a wide variety of supportive and educational resources for opioid users as well as families and friends of opioid users. Membership to the foundation is free and calls for no requirements, so such resources are accessible to all. Anonymity is automatically guaranteed to all members throughout all resources offered.
Educational resources include articles, testimonials, blog posts written by health professionals and members themselves. Opioid users are offered information about how to recognize dependence in oneself, how to seek treatment, how to maintain and manage personal and professional relationships while struggling with dependence, and how to maintain abstinence once personal opioid use has stopped. Friends and families of opioid users can find information on the site about how to approach a user about their dependence, how to encourage a loved one to seek treatment, how to maintain a supportive environment for a user, and how to be an ally in general to a user.
The foundation also connects members who are users to health professionals who provide one-on-one sessions. Members are invited to attend anonymous support groups with other members seeking help. Members also enjoy compensation for writing for the foundation’s blog, discounts on various products, compensation for participating in various scientific studies, and participation in mentorship programs. More immediate resources can also be found on the 100 Million Ways site, such as the National Suicide Hot Line and the SAMHSA National Hot Line.
To support scientific data collection to determine the impact cannabinoids have on opioid use and PTSD, and the associated anxiety, depression, and decreased quality of life, and to provide an online community to support people with these life challenges who are interested in cannabinoids as a wellness treatment option.
